Introducing Longview Chiropractor Dr. David Adams

“You don’t want to be a chiropractor!”  That’s what the college career counselor told Dr. Adams back in 1993.

“I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, I have always wanted to help people, there was just something about my conversation with that counselor that made we want to learn more about this thing called chiropractic.” Dr. Adams took a job working for a chiropractor in Edmond, Okla. “When I was working for Dr. Edwards I began to see so many sick people were getting better without the use of drugs or surgery, I knew this is what I wanted to do.”

In 1994, Dr. Adams and his wife Trish left Oklahoma, and moved to Dallas Texas where he spent the next four years at Parker College of Chiropractic earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree.  In 1995, Dr. Adams and his wife were blessed by the birth of their first child, Blake. Though the birth of a child is a wonderful thing, the birth process proved to be a traumatic one for little Blake. In attempting to retrieve the baby from the womb, the doctors seriously injured Blake’s delicate face and neck. The Adams were given little hope when the doctors suggested they do nothing about the injury until Blake reached 12 years of age at which time they would attempt a surgical correction of the torn muscles. Seeing the condition in which Blake was left they knew that something must be done soon. Dr. Adams decided to seek a second opinion from one of his instructors.

“When he suggested I take my newborn son to a pediatric chiropractor, I thought he was crazy,” said Dr. Adams. After further investigation it was decided this was exactly the treatment Blake needed. “I remember my wife and I were very skeptical but when Dr. Hymen explained that our son had a spine, it just happened to be smaller than ours, and it was injured it made perfect sense to us.” In a short time, Blake’s situation began to improve drastically. By six months of age, Blake’s injury was a thing of the past and no longer visible. It was at that time that Dr. Adams understood the importance of safe, natural chiropractic care in the lives of children.

Upon completion of his chiropractic education he spent the next three and half years pursuing a post-graduate pediatric degree (F.I.C.P.A. Fellow of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) to be able to help children and infants just as his son had been helped.

“I love working with kids. I love to see kids with multiple ear infections have them go away.  I love to help babies no longer suffer from colic.  I love to see kids with digestive problems, asthma, allergies, bed wetting or hyperactivity improve and enjoy life more. I love the relief given to worried parents.  I love to know I made a difference in a child’s life!” says Dr. Adams.

In the winter of 1998, Dr. Adams and his wife, Trish, welcomed their first daughter into the world. Allison was born with a palsied left arm and shoulder as a result of her position in the birth canal, and so Dr. Adams administered Allison’s very first chiropractic adjustment just moments after her birth. In a matter of weeks there was no evidence of trauma or injury in their daughter. She continues to grow and thrive as a beautiful, happy and healthy young lady.

In the summer of 2005 the couple’s prayers were answered when the telephone rang and they were told of the birth of their third child Ashley Kathrine Adams. Dr. Adams and his wife knew right away that this was the child they had been praying for. They had no idea what a rough road they were about to take with her as the doctors informed them of her condition. Within Ashley’s first year of life she received a multi organ transplant and as a result later developed four lymphomas in her lungs. She beat the cancer in the summer of 2007, but was hospitalized that fall as her transplanted small intestine went into rejection. Months went by with Trish and Ashley 700 miles away from home, but the family remained strong and united as they fought for the life of their youngest child. Dr. Adams and their older children remained back in Longview to continue caring for their patients. In December of 2007, Trish and Ashley rejoined the family just in time for the holidays. Ashley Kate currently receives weekly chiropractic care along with rehabilitation therapy and is recovering nicely from her many, many obstacles. The Adams family knows they are truly blessed.

“Through Ashley’s story, I have learned firsthand how delicate and fragile a person’s health can become,” says Dr. Adams. “It is my personal experiences that have shaped our purpose at Family Focus Wellness Center. Dr. Adams Asks some important questions of interest to Longview residents - Chiropractor Longview Dr. Adams Asks...

How could chiropractic help a stomach problem?
Chiropractic works by locating and reducing areas of the spine compromising nerve communications between your brain and your body. If nerves to or from your stomach are irritated, your stomach won't work right. Chiropractors find the source of the interference, reduce it and allow your body to work as designed.
How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
