How We Work

When you come to our office, you will immediately notice a difference from any other doctor’s office you have ever been to. If you have been to a typical doctor’s office in reference to your diabetes, you know that you schedule your appointment weeks or months in advance, and then when you get there, you are rushed in and out as quickly as possible. The doctor might half-listen as they record your symptoms on your chart, speaking quickly, and they may even just brush you off until your next appointment.

They may order routine blood work and direct you to make your next routine maintenance appointment with the front desk before you leave. That next appointment will be in three to six months’ time and it will probably go a lot like the first appointment did. It doesn’t matter if you are feeling unwell or if your symptoms have changed. It is very likely that you will be told to simply accept that your disease is progressing and that there is nothing that can be done to change that fact.

How-We-Work-B

Now let’s take a look and compare that example appointment to what you will experience in our office. We treat you with dignity and respect. We do not see you as one of many, or a random face in the crowd. We take pride in the fact that we know you by name.

We are invested in your good health and wellness. We take the time to record a full medical history and all of your symptoms. We want to know precisely what is going on inside your body so that we can help you as much as possible. We ask detailed questions so that no symptoms are overlooked.

Sometimes you might think that a symptom is unrelated to diabetes, so you don’t bring it up when you visit the doctor. We work differently here. We see you as more than just symptoms, or just another person with diabetes. We know that you are a whole being and that each symptom is your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong.

If you have a concern, we do not brush it off. Instead we dig deep to determine the root causes of your symptoms. That is what functional medicine is all about. We study the body and how it works. We learn as much as we can so that when something feels wrong to you, we can work hard to find the cause so it can be corrected.

When it comes to functional medicine and diabetes, we show our patients that there is a different approach which needs to be considered. We focus on lifestyle modification to regain health. We don’t want you to think that you have a disease that won’t get better. We work to change your view of how to take control of diabetes. We want to work with you to find the answers to the questions that you have, including the all important one: “How do I create good health from within?”

The answer to that question lies with education. Your body is your own and it is a good idea to know how it works, and what signals it will send when it is out of its natural state of balance. We form a partnership with you by teaching you about your body and by walking alongside you, coaching and encouraging you as you go down the path toward wellness.

We place a particular emphasis on the 5 Pillars of Health. These consist of the nervous system, (which includes the brain because it controls everything,) hormone health, detoxification, fitness and nutrition. We work with you until you have a strong foundation with these pillars, and help you to make any necessary changes. For instance if you are not physically active, we will help you to work on the fitness aspect. If you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency, we can suggest dietary changes or supplements to assist you in the nutrition aspect.

We perform thorough tests to make sure that your nervous system is operating at an optimal level, that your hormones are in balance, and we determine if you are in need of detoxification. Once we ascertain your specific level of health and apply the 5 Pillars of Health to it, then you can make changes and begin to see positive results. If you want to learn more about functional medicine and the 5 Pillars of Health and how they can help you lead a life of wellness, call our office for a consultation today.
