Is This You?

If you’re like many people, you think that type II diabetes is just a disease of the blood sugar. It is a common misconception, but it turns out that diabetes is actually multifaceted. It is not simply about the level of sugar which is detectable in your blood at any given time.

The map (or landscape) of type II diabetes includes many other factors. They are insulin resistance, inflammation, and the potential ability to resensitize your insulin receptors. Then there are inflammatory gut and digestive disorders, as well as hormonal imbalances and how they all play a role in the disease. Each of those factors has the potential to influence your blood sugar.

When you visit a doctor, you probably have an expectation that the doctor is going to “fix” you. We find that to be an unrealistic expectation and here is why. The doctor does not do the healing for you. The healing comes from within you. If you go to a doctor and they give you a pill, it is still an “outside-in” approach. In our office we have a different mindset and we try to help you help you, from the inside out.

We have a system that works. We encourage you to follow the advice we give you, and to refrain from doing the things we advise against, because they will not help your body to thrive. Rest assured that we do not set any unreachable standards or strict regimens which are impossible to adhere to. We do not want you to be miserable.

We want you to achieve your health goals. We do not ask you to do anything that we are not willing to do ourselves. We have found that other doctors have plans which are very strict. As a matter of fact, they are so strict that you may be able to keep to them for a short while, but not for the long term and certainly not for life. They are unrealistic.

We want you to be able to live in the real world while still being able to take your disease seriously. We want you to be able to give it the consideration and attention it deserves, so that you can begin to turn your health around. One key component to being able to do just that is our accountability and mentoring aspects of the program. You will be partnered one- on-one with someone who has helped others to achieve their health goals. This makes it more likely that you will achieve your own health goals.

When it comes to your health, you have a choice. You may choose to work with a doctor who sees you two or four times per year. By simply accepting the status quo, you are increasing the chance that you will end up spending your time with a lack of independence, and having someone else (such as a home health aide or a nurse) care for your personal needs.

All too often we see older people in nursing homes because they thought the standard care offered by a typical doctor was good enough for them, when in reality their lives and their health could have been vastly different. They could have spent their time traveling, working, visiting their families, or all three. People who do not take an active role in their health usually feel older than they are. If you want to live a life of youthful vigor and lasting good health, call our office and see what we have to offer.
